Lone Starburst Paper Piecing

Tonight during #talknt I'm working on a new technique: paper piecing! I've had four pages of the Lone Starburst by Six White Horses Studio sitting on my desk for weeks, and I've finally mustered up the courage to get started.

I'm working in bright, super saturated colors broken up with a delicate white-on-white pattern, with solid white in the center of the star. I was going to invert this, with a colourful star and white backing until I saw this pin today and knew I just had to have one of my very own:

I have no idea why I put off paper piecing for so long -- it's easy and entirely addictive. I've got to go, #talknt is calling and I've got more blocks to sew!

  1. Thanks for showing a picture of my pillow! The technique is pretty easy and fun to do. Just don't make it more complicated like I did by shrinking the pattern down to 75%. Have fun!

    1. Curly boy, I went ahead and fixed the credits and source of the photo to link directly to your Flickr page. Thanks for the reminder!

I love your pillow! I'm trying to figure out how to arrange my backgrounds now, before I get too far along. I'd love to get a wash of colour that blends all of the blocks together across the quilt, but maybe I'm over-reaching... ;)

    2. Thanks and thanks for fixing the credits!

I don't think I'd want to make a whole quilt of this block, waaaaay too much work. My wife, Flossyblossy, sent it out as a bee block but she's a few short so I've offered to make a couple for that. Good luck and I can't wait to see what you do!
